My Exquisite Room…A Design By Michele

Hi and Welcome! I’m so excited to take a moment and share a bit about myself with you today! I’m Michele Conti, my company is Designs by Michele. I’ve been Blogging for the Times Union Home Expo for three years now and love sharing informative tips and ideas from the vendors attending the Expo each year.  Today I’d like to share how I got started designing. My husband and I built our home together (and yes stayed happily married in the process, which by the way is not an easy task when your husband is a builder and you a designer!) I have learned a ton about home building, construction, and design in the process so I hope I can be a resource and an inspiration to you…I enjoy what I do and love to dream of design, today I was perusing through furnishings to put into a family room design for a client.  My mind started to drift and I asked myself what would my dream living room include?

Sun Worshipers Rejoice!

Here in the Northeast, we are in the middle of winter and enjoying the warmth of cozy fires, while looking at the beautiful blanket of white that covers the earth outside our windows. Hmm…but is this what we see?

Are you a sun worshiper and love large windows, but feeling the sun will do more harm than good? Do you have beautiful windows, but have covered them with costly shades only to feel that the shades clearly weren’t as fun to stare at as the view was, and they really didn’t help much with the cold or heat.

Renovating Kitchens and Baths…Time to Call A Plumber

You have now done your research, spent hours on these sites,  and you have loads of ideas of how you want your bathroom or kitchen to look. If you are at all like the “average consumer”,  the internet has educated you, but with knowledge, comes confusion.  ALL the pictures look pretty!  Why spend $500 when there is similar product for $150?  Why the difference? Design, construction, brass content, ceramic cartridges, water volume, all of these things matter and you need to take them into consideration when deciding on what fixtures work best for your renovation.

Renovating your kitchen? Culinary functionality of kitchen appliances combined with magnificent design aesthetics are key elements in creating your dream kitchen. But taking the plunge on choosing a dream luxury stove can be more overwhelming than buying a new car.

Appliance Trends 2017 and Beyond..

I always get asked by those who are thinking about updating or renovating their kitchen, “what are the latest trends?” “What do I need to include in my project so that my project will last and be current for many years to come?” While most people don’t want to be too trendy in an area as expensive and as permanent as a kitchen, everyone does want to have the latest and greatest appliances that will keep their kitchen looking fresh and up to date for many years to come. At Adirondack Appliance they have been selling appliances since 1929. Technology, innovation, design and performance are all key factors for them when selecting their brands and they are careful to choose products tailored to the needs of their customers.

My recommendation for 2017…

Completely Custom…Beautifully Done Design

In today’s world of cookie-cutter design and ticky-tacky construction, “custom-built” most often means getting to pick standard cabinet pieces and colors that someone puts together to fit standard room spaces. Homeowners who want to give their existing kitchens a makeover often replace the old cabinets with new ones. However, for homeowners who truly want to give their kitchens a unique and elegant touch, custom cabinets are the right choice. John Lis, owner of Normanskill Custom Cabinet Co., has been handcrafting custom pieces for over 30 years in residential and commercial applications.

You’ve got the plans and you know what it is you want. Maybe it’s a game room to play Halo in, or a home theater where you can watch the latest Blu-ray or the big game.
