Awnings are a type of cover which is generally made of fabric is used as shade and shelter from scorching heat in the summer and huge downpour of rains during the rainy season. It extends over an area and does its magic; you can see them often on windows, decks, and doors.

At first awnings were generally used for domestic purposes, but by the middle of 1800, awnings started to show up in businesses. They became very common sighting on storefronts, the retractable version made the shopkeeper’s life a little easier while encouraging the customers to keep away from heat or rain, during shopping.

Awnings are a valuable home design element that our grandparents knew all about. In the days before air conditioning, they were used to shade interiors and help keep homes cool. With the focus on sustainable design today, there’s renewed interest in awnings. They block the sun from entering the house and warming it on hot days, and can be removed or retracted during the winter months when you’re craving light and warmth. Depending on the fabric you choose, they can also keep harmful UV rays from damaging your skin and fading your fabrics.

You will need to retract awnings when high winds are predicted. The Reynolds group will let you know how many miles per hour their products can withstand. There are also motorized versions on the market. Factors to consider when deciding whether to go hand-cranked or motorized include the ease of simply pushing a button versus the increased cost of the product, installation and maintenance. (Motorized versions also come with a hand-crank option incase of power outages.) By scheduling an in-home consultation with a Reynolds Group representative, you’ll take the first step toward learning how an awning will benefit your home and lifestyle.

Located in Booth 157 & 158, at The Times Union Home Expo  Ed, Matt or Pat, will be present with information on different types of awnings and retractable wall screens for your home or business project.
