The Beekman Boys, Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge are our guests at the Times Union Home Expo. They will be hosting a book signing (Beekman 1802 Style ) on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2pm in the Artisan area at booth #161A. Beekman products will be on display and on sale during Expo hours on Saturday, Feb. 11 and on Sunday, Feb. 12.

Josh is an advertising executive and Brent a physician, they purchased a farm in Sharon Springs, NY, that’s when their life took an unexpected turn. After purchasing the historic Beekman 1802 Farm in 2007, they had no idea that it would launch one of the “fastest growing lifestyle brands in the country.” Originally just a weekend getaway from their hectic NYC lives, the farm became their lifeline after both men lost their jobs within one month of each other during the recession of 2008.

In 2012, the duo competed and won the grand prize in CBS’s The Amazing Race. Over 10M viewers watched for 12 weeks as Josh and Brent beat 20 other competitors in a 45,000 mile race around the world through 12 cities in 9 different countries. And the rest is history!!

When it came time to help design the Beekman booth for the Home Expo, I decided to explore simple silhouettes mixed with sleek natural materials and textural pieces, I enlisted the talents of Brian Sietz owner of UID to help make this all come together to say one thing—Urban Sleek Design.

Industrial Home, All Modern, and Joss and Main are all popular sites with one thing in common. Urban Industrial Design. Well… this year at the Home Expo we have our own version of Urban Chic. Brain has helped create the Beekman Barn and 1802 Mercantile right on site!

Reclaimed wood is a great material to use when trying to create an industrial modern space. Reclaimed wood is eco-friendly, it re-uses old wood from warehouses, factories, and barns that have been torn down. Below are a few ways you can incorporate reclaimed wood into your home.

Hanging reclaimed wood on the walls is a great way to bring in warmth and texture. Using wood on a single wall creates a focal point in the room. Behind the bed or above the fireplace are perfect places to hang reclaimed wood.

Barn doors are a great way to add style and reclaimed wood into your space. Barn doors can be used in so many applications, from Bedrooms to bathrooms…

Sliding doors made from reclaimed wood are great for small spaces too, like bathrooms and laundry rooms.

At Urban Industrial Design Brain achieves this look using perfectly aged, reclaimed wood as well as metal to create unique accent pieces like shelves, benches and tables. Each piece completes a room with a defining exclamation of authenticity. Brian works with his clients to achieve the ideal size, choice of materials and sense of aesthetics to meet their taste and budget.
